Psychology Services

At Black Swan Clinical Psychology, we aim to generate or restore psychological wellness. One way to describe psychological wellness is to say you have 3 buckets full. Full buckets generate meaning, purpose and self- worth…

If one or more of these buckets is leaking or has had punctures, your wellness can ebb away… If they can be refilled or restored, you have the best chance to thrive.

autonomy bucket

AUTONOMY

The “Autonomy Bucket” represents the feeling/confidence/reality that you can have choice in your life and have authority to make decisions about yourself which are meaningful to you. This is sometimes called a sense of agency: That is, you can be the agent in your own life, making things happen…(This bucket can drain with a feeling of coercion or control or a sense of lack of authority in your own life).

CONNECTEDNESS

The “Connectedness Bucket” represents the feeling of being part of a group involving mutual obligations and support for each other and an associated sense of shared identity. It could be a small supportive group of friends, a club, a team, a family, a romantic or business partnership, or a pet, a spiritual group, or a culture involving shared meaning and mutual support. (This bucket can drain with significant losses of loved ones, break-up of significant relationship or with feelings of isolation or alienation from others, due to retirement, under-unemployment, moving to a new town/workplace).

competency bucket

COMPETENCY

The “Competency Bucket” represents the feeling that you can do things and have skills and strengths in areas of your life. (The competency bucket can drain with perception of lack of achievement, capacity, or success in desired areas of life or loss of working life due to injury).
